IDET 2025: Patria AMV XP 8x8 Evolves Into Full-Spectrum Weapon System with Turra 30 V10 Turret.
At the IDET 2025 exhibition, held from May 28 to 30 in Brno, Czech Republic, Patria unveils for the first time a new configuration of its AMV XP 8x8 armored vehicle featuring the EVPU Turra 30 V10 remote-controlled turret. This presentation takes place within the framework of growing industrial cooperation between Finland and Central Europe, particularly involving the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The model on display reflects this broader European integration dynamic, based on a configuration originally adopted by Slovakia in 2022.

The system showcased represents a notable development in the merging of tactical mobility platforms with intelligent weapon modules. While the AMV XP 8x8 is already recognized for its robustness, modularity, and adaptability to varied missions, the integration of the Turra 30 V10 turret introduces a new technological layer to the platform. Designed by Slovak company EVPU, the turret incorporates a number of new technical features. It is equipped with a 30 mm automatic cannon (350 rounds), a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun (600 rounds), smoke grenade launchers with 120-degree coverage, as well as a sensor suite and subsystems dedicated to situational awareness and targeting.
Among the system's key components, the Turra 30 V10 includes the HARPIA active protection system, designed to detect, classify and autonomously counter incoming threats such as guided missiles, drones, or projectiles. The system uses artificial intelligence algorithms to operate countermeasures without manual intervention. Complementing this is the VIPER module, a multi-role drone launcher with ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) functions, loitering munition capabilities, electronic warfare tools and anti-drone countermeasures. Additional elements include a multi-mission radar, an anti-tank shot detector, a sniper acoustic locator, and a command interface designed to support rapid engagement and data-driven decision-making.
Previously, the AMV XP 8x8 had been equipped with more conventional turrets. The integration of the Turra 30 V10 marks a transition, equipping the vehicle with deeper strike and detection capabilities while preserving its mobility and mission flexibility. This change aligns with anticipated future battlefield requirements, including increased mobility, network-centric warfare, and the ability to respond to multiple threats in environments affected by drone saturation or hybrid threats.
This technological cooperation between Finland, represented by Patria, and Slovakia, through EVPU, resonates with the host country Czech Republic. It highlights the strategic convergence within Northern and Central Europe around shared armored platforms, NATO standards and a reinforced logic of interoperability. The partnership is not limited to the procurement of vehicles but also encompasses co-development of integrated systems. The Brno exhibition allows Czech stakeholders to directly assess the potential for adapting the AMV XP 8x8 to their own operational requirements, particularly considering possible local industrial participation in assembly or sustainment phases.
Ultimately, the Patria AMV XP 8x8 as presented at IDET 2025 in its configuration with the Turra 30 V10 reflects a transition toward a comprehensive weapons system integrating firepower, mobility and electronic capability within a single platform. The vehicle’s growing presence across European armed forces, already in use by nine countries, along with the involvement of Central European industrial partners, suggests a trajectory where the AMV XP 8x8 could serve as the foundation for a family of fully interoperable systems tailored to emerging operational needs.
